The course is
designed for millwrights, mechanics, and craftsmen who must become proficient in the use
of their laser alignment tool in performing day-to-day alignments of coupled rotating
machinery. The course is intensive and includes both practical hands-on and theoretical
instruction. Proper alignment principles and practices are stressed, including soft foot,
troubleshooting and special applications.

Courses at your facilities:
Student should have some experience with the alignment system and should
preferably have some field experience in alignment.

Syllabus
First Day
• Alignment terminology and principles of correct shaft alignment.
• Review of components and features.
• Measurement functions and exercises.
• Repeatability and accuracy issues and troubleshooting.
• Tolerance tables and usage.
Second Day
• Thermal growth, targets and deliberate misalignment.
• Soft foot:
- Measuring soft foot conditions
- Analyzing soft foot conditions
- Correcting soft foot
• Troubleshooting, shaft deflection and coupling strain problems, optimal
moves/solutions.
Third Day
• Spacer shafts, spool-piece coupling alignment and tolerances
• Vertical and flanged-mounted machine alignment.
• Accessories, brackets, custom brackets, and special applications
equipment.
